hmm. i've been riding my fuji fixie for ~10 years. It is a lugged steel, green frame. Yet I have never seen anyone have quite that reaction to it. Maybe my fuji is too dark green.
that explains it. Too dark, cow horn bars instead of drops, and--worst of all--black tape. And it's clearly been ridden in rain, snow, etc. for about the last 10 years. Oh well, good thing I'm already married.

Yeah, it has to be that lighter green, and you need some yellow bar tape and paint for accents. The yellow parts are key.
